Nightingale

Delve into the fantasy of puppets, where the innocent love is cherished and H. C. Andersen’s fairy tale travels in time to become a reality.
Adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s famous tale, “Nightingale” is a story about a nightingale who has the most beautiful voice in the world but is kept in the palace by the empire who fails to understand that the voice is a song of free flying. The show combines the practice of traditional Chinese rod puppets and innovative techniques to provide a delightful theatre experience. The paper sculpture, as a signature of its puppet design, brings each unique character to life, while the customized devices are the perfect examples of its clever creativity. The beautiful music is written by Piotr Salaber, an award-winning composer from Poland. The elegant melodies carry the fragrance from the East, highlighting the cycles of seasons to under paint the atmosphere of the play. It is not just an original theatre piece which liberates audience’s preexisting knowledge of puppet theatre, but evokes a sense of classiness, often found in the ancient Eastern culture. Ultimately, Andersen’s well-known fairy tale is brought to life from the past to the present.
