The Children of the Sun

Traveling from the past, the beautiful legend is brought to life with its lingering romance

The sun visited the human world to have some fun, but – the last thing he had expected – he literally laid a golden egg here.  From the egg, the Children of the Sun were born, and they became the ancestors of the Paiwan people.  Like a string of glass beads, The Children of the Sun threads several Paiwan legends together, while its clever combination of puppets, props, stage gimmicks, and theatrical scenes allows both adults and children to travel through time back to the origin of the myth, from which we are offered the wisdom of life and a harmony with nature shared by the ancestors of the Paiwan.

Premiere: Dec. 27, 2009, National Taiwan Museum
